Phoenixville Policemen Visit Classroom

Mrs. Lauren Miller’s Full Day Kindergarten Pilot Program students have been learning about Community Helpers, Goods and Services, and Wants and Needs as part of the Kindergarten Social Studies Curriculum.

Mrs. Miller invited parents of students and other community members to her classroom to discuss their jobs and what it means to be part of a community.  Recently, Officer Marshall and Officer Gold visited the classroom and answered interview questions created by the class.  The officers shared information about how they provide a service to people in our community of Phoenixville.

The police officers discussed what education and skills are needed to become a Police Officer.  They also wanted the students to know that their most important job is keeping everyone in the community safe and that they are here to help people in a variety of ways.  The officers explained to students that they can prepare themselves for their future by being good listeners and by being respectful and treating others how you wish to be treated.

When asked to share what they like about working in our community, the officers spoke about the places that make Phoenixville special and the many changes they have seen over the years including the bustling downtown area, the nature trails available and favorite places like the Colonial Theater and Brown’s Cow.   They also mentioned how they enjoy meeting people and how every day being a police officer here is different and “fun”.

Before leaving, the Officers gave the students pencils and sticker badges as keepsakes from their visit.    The students gained new information about the job of a police officer and enjoyed the visit!  Thank you to Officer Marshall and Officer Gold!
